Senator Debra Altschiller Endorses Carleigh!

Some people just shine and inspire people around them to rise to the occasion.
Carleigh Beriont shines. She shines light on the dark places where elderly people are threatened with not being able to age in the hometowns they love and have contributed to. She shines light on where children are hungry for lunch and great public schools are in need. She shines light on places where workers need fair wages, good health insurance and a social security system that will be ready for them when they take off their work shoes for good.

Carleigh Beriont advocated alongside me for strict regulations on data centers, an issue of growing concern across the nation. As primary sponsor of Senate Bill 439, I fought to establish critical common-sense regulations for data center development — which were then gutted by Republican amendments. The result was not a framework; it was an abdication of responsibility.
Beriont also recognizes the threat to our energy grid, our drinking water and quality of life if AI data centers are allowed to proliferate in the Granite State. She advocated for this bill, telling the Union Leader, “Once again, Republicans in our state government put Big Tech ahead of the health and welfare of New Hampshire residents.” She fought against the Republicans' hijacking of this bill to instead recommend a policy that would infringe on community control, essentially eliminating the ability of local government to regulate data center construction and all the issues they bring with them — massive energy and water use, chronic noise and light pollution, and hyperscale footprints that can infringe on neighborhoods and destroy community character.
I’m supporting Carleigh Beriont. She and her campaign have built an impressive and super-engaged grassroots network of community activists because she is one too. Carleigh is the chair of the Hampton Select Board because she is respected for the way she solves problems. Hampton is one of the measurably most purple towns in the state of New Hampshire. She knows that no one in Congress can work in a vacuum. I respect that Carleigh has run in very contested races and built broad coalitions along the way. She's never walked into an elected position on name recognition alone; she worked for it.
Unlike other candidates, Carleigh didn't have to decide if she wanted to run a campaign from her second or third home after swooping in from out of state; she has roots here. I respect the name she has made for herself, the funds she has raised herself and the work she has done for the community. She is the same person on the campaign trail that she is in Select Board meetings and behind closed doors. She is solid. She keeps her fights on policy, not personality. She lifts others up; that is exactly the kind of person we want in Congress representing New Hampshire.
Beriont is not waiting until she gets to Washington to take action. Along with speaking out on data center regulation and other important issues, as chair of the Hampton Select Board, she has brought members together for unanimous votes on a number of critical issues. She also fully supported rejecting cooperation with ICE in the town of Hampton.
For many months, she has also been at the forefront of the effort to call for a federal investigation of the state-run New Hampshire Youth Development Center.
Beriont is a principled hard worker already rolling up her sleeves to get things done. Her truly grassroots campaign reminds me of our former congresswoman from Rochester, feisty and tenacious. I’ve watched her campaign catch fire and hope you will join me on Sept. 8 in voting for Carleigh Beriont for Congress, District 1.
