Hampton Dedicates a Black Heritage Trail Marker
As a member of Hampton’s Heritage Commission, it was my honor to memorialize the life of Dinah Small Burdoo, the last enslaved person in Hampton, with a Black Heritage Trail of New Hampshire marker earlier this month.
Born in the 1700s, Dinah lived in Hampton until her death at the age of 92. Later in her life, she was cared for by the town and community members.
This memorial serves as a reminder not only of our history, but of the ways that we can learn from that history to create a better future for all Granite Staters.
