CARLEIGH ON THE ISSUES
We are All Connected
The issues Democrats care about are deeply connected because the people in this district are deeply connected. If we want strong schools, we need to support the families that send kids to them. If we want climate resilience, we need a government that invests in our people and plans for the future.
Defending Democratic Values
In New Hampshire, democracy is a living tradition built on civic engagement, grassroots activism, and a deep respect for every person’s voice. Carleigh’s commitment to strengthening democratic institutions comes from a lifetime spent in service of the idea that democracy is something every one of us builds together.
Carleigh’s commitment to these values has been recognized here and abroad—for three years, she worked as a teacher in the Republic of the Marshall Islands, where she saw firsthand the consequences of U.S. policy and the urgent need for courageous, moral, people-centered leadership. At home, she has taught about the intersections of public policy, religion, and US history at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government and pushed for more accessible elections, affordable housing, and fair school funding as the Vice Chair of Hampton's Select Board.
Running with Integrity
Carleigh knows nobody is above the law—not politicians, not corporations. She is not accepting corporate PAC money. On day one, she’ll push to get dark money out of politics and for reforms for both Congress and the courts—working to restore trust, transparency, and people-powered democracy.
Fighting for Working Families
Carleigh believes Congress must deliver for all our families: protect and expand Social Security, Medicare, and the Affordable Care Act, and make health care, child care, elder care, and housing truly affordable. She calls for a tax system that lifts up working families and supports raising the minimum wage, strengthening unions, and enacting overdue criminal justice reform.
Health care is a human right, including mental health care. In Washington, Carleigh will push for policy that brings down costs and ensures care for every family, regardless of income.
Freedom For All
In the Granite State, freedom means the right to make your own choices and to access the resources you need to live a safe and fulfilling life. In Congress, Carleigh will fight to restore, defend, and boldly expand our basic freedoms: the right to access comprehensive reproductive health care, the right to bodily autonomy, and the right to live, learn, and love without discrimination or fear. Carleigh stands against all laws that target people based on their gender, identity, sexuality, or race.
Above all, Carleigh’s leadership is defined by service, independence, and a relentless belief that we rise together when government is truly of, by, and for the people. She’ll work every day to ensure no one gets left behind, in New Hampshire or across America.
Protecting Consumers - In communities across the district, people are losing millions of dollars to crypto-scammers. Carleigh is partnering with local government leaders like US Army Veteran and forensic accountant Aleks Ring to educate people, especially seniors, about how to protect themselves from online fraudsters. In D.C., Carleigh will fight to regulate Crypto, an important emerging economic driver, so that it can't be used to commit fraud, launder money, or facilitate other illegal activity.
Supporting Public Education - NH is a state with a long history of incredible public education. Everyone in each town and city pitches in through local property taxes to provide the best education to the children in their communities. Now those schools are under threat by voucher programs and inequitable funding. Manchester Central High School is a perfect example. Long a flagship for public education in NH, Central High School is struggling to continue to provide the excellent education to its students that it has provided for decades. Donald Trump wants to take New Hampshire's voucher scheme nationwide, and Carleigh will go to D.C. to fight back against his efforts to dismantle public education and ensure our public schools are fully funded.
Protecting our Freedoms - Around the first district, our freedoms are under assault, not just from a lawless Trump administration, but by our state government in Concord. From efforts by Republicans on the Executive Council to defund Planned Parenthood to Trump-appointed justices eviscerating federal protections for the legal right to an abortion, Republicans have resolved to ensure that freedom for them means denying it to us. Carleigh will go to D.C. and fight to make Roe v. Wade the law of the land and abolish the discriminatory Hyde Amendment.
Affordable Childcare - Like so many parents, Carleigh has experienced firsthand how childcare has become inaccessible and unaffordable. She and Eric sent both their children to a daycare and pre-k that they loved, and they want all parents to be able to do the same if that's what's best for their family. That is why one of the first bills Carleigh will propose in Congress is legislation to cap the cost of childcare at seven percent of a family's income.
Protecting Healthcare Access - The Trump administration and Republicans in Concord are doing everything they can to deny healthcare access to as many people as possible. By cutting Medicaid and instituting onerous work requirements, the administration is making it harder for working people to survive. Across the district, families depend on Medicaid to care for aging family members, keep their children healthy, and pay for life-saving treatment. Not only will Carleigh fight to restore the Administration's cuts to Medicaid, she supports universal access to publicly funding health insurance through a plan like Medicare for All. Just like she does in local government, Carleigh will work with anyone, Republican or Democrat, who wants to make healthcare more accessible and affordable for the people in our district.
