6 Days to Go: Attacking Political Corruption

With just six days until the primary, I am using each day to discuss an issue I have highlighted on the campaign trail. For Day 6, I am highlighting the need to attack political corruption and return power to everyday people.

We have a corruption problem in America.

The prevalence of big money in our politics has created a never-ending cycle in which politicians take their marching orders from corporate PACs and special interests, and in return, those same donors pour huge amounts of money into political campaigns in order to keep the politicians who do their bidding in office.

Nothing will ever change as long as the same politicians maintaining a broken status quo remain in office for years and years. More of the same won’t fix this. That’s why I signed the Term Limits on Congress pledge.

Term limits for members of Congress and the U.S. Supreme Court are how we start to get things back on track in this country and ensure Congress is filled with leaders who strive to make life better for people, not cling to power and grow their bank accounts.

But term limits alone won’t address the corruption crisis plaguing American politics.

That’s why I also support restoring campaign finance laws that limit the pernicious impact of big money on our political system, closing the revolving door that allows retired legislators to make millions lobbying their former colleagues, and banning politicians (and their spouses) from buying and trading stocks while in office.

I refuse to accept corporate PAC money. My campaign is fueled by people like you who chip in whatever you can, whenever you can, to help me bring a new kind of leadership to Congress.
