UAW ENDORSES CARLEIGH!

UAW announced today that they are endorsing Carleigh Beriont for Congress in NH-01. 

Tim Hoheneder, Organizer for the UNH GEU-UAW, said  “UNH graduate workers have been fighting two years towards a fair first contract and a living wage. Carleigh’s strong background and experiences as a graduate labor organizer means she understands the power workers build when standing together. Carleigh reflects the commitment to collective power that graduate workers need from those seeking to represent New Hampshire.”

Beriont helped organize graduate student workers in the HGSU-UAW at Harvard. It took five years and two strikes to secure an initial contract. Beriont said “my experiences as a union organizer taught me to never walk away from the table and demonstrated the value and power of solidarity. I will bring those skills and the voices of working people with me to Washington.”

In Congress,  Beriont has pledged to support the PRO Act, fight to raise the minimum wage, co-sponsor Medicare for All, and work towards a just and humane immigration system; priorities championed by the UAW. 

Beriont's campaign has picked up significant momentum over the last two weeks after polls from Saint Anselm and UNH showed her gaining 9% and Heath Howard, the next highest polling candidate suspended his campaign and endorsed her. 

Beriont has been endorsed by State Senator Debra Altschiller, Former President of the Metal Trades Council at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Paul O’Connor, Former Vice-President of the American Federation of Government Employees at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, John (JJ) Joyal, President of the Dartmouth College Service Employees Union, Chris Peck, along with the Progressive Democrats of America. She also received official acknowledgments for her support for unions in endorsements for Stefany Shaheen from the Professional Fire Fighters of New Hampshire and the State Employees Association. 

Beriont will be joined by numerous labor leaders and organizers from around NH on Labor Day at the AFL-CIO’s annual Labor Day Breakfast.
