Thirteen is a Lucky Number
Today’s a huge milestone, Eric.
One year. 25,000 miles. 56 volunteer leaders from 35 towns. 700 volunteers making calls, knocking doors, writing postcards, and building communities committed to peace, hope, and justice.
It’s easy to get lost in the numbers game when you’re running for Congress; fundraising totals, volunteer shifts, polling. But, at the end of the day, numbers don’t win elections. Dollars don’t either.
People do.
So I want to talk about just one special number that consistently reminds me of that fact: 13.
Thirteen is the number of volunteer leaders who showed up for our first strategy meeting almost a year ago, today.
I want to recognize those thirteen courageous leaders who believed in this campaign from the start.
Jo, Ranan, Don, Pat, Brandon, Mary-Kay, Linda, Zoe, Lew, June, Joel, Brenda, and Ginger.
As our ranks have grown and our campaign has picked up steam, so many more incredible leaders have answered the call.
It was these thirteen who helped us lay the foundation of a grassroots movement that could take on the establishment and deliver the lasting change this historic moment demands.
I hope you’ll celebrate this anniversary with me by acknowledging the 13 leaders who were there from the beginning.
