Video: Why are our property taxes so high?

On Tax Day, I gave testimony at the New Hampshire State House about how residents are being crushed by property taxes. Renters also see this burden reflected in their rent, which is rising faster than their income can keep up with.

Unfortunately, Granite Staters don’t have the partners we need at the State House or in Congress. We deserve so much better. Here’s my testimony:

And, I’ll be honest. I was pretty upset after sitting through three hours of public testimony, listening to State Reps and anti-tax zealots say things like “taxes are slavery.” I recorded this video on the way home to try and make sense of what I witnessed.

We can fix this, but we can’t do it alone. We need courageous leaders in Concord and Washington to have the hard conversations and keep the needs of working people in mind when we make decisions about our future.
