Happy Labor Day!
Today is Labor Day, a day for us to lift up working people and the hard-won progress we’ve made to secure workers’ rights. It is also a day to acknowledge the Trump administration’s wholesale assault on labor rights in the United States and organize to fight back.
From hobbling the National Labor Relations Board to canceling the contracts negotiated by unions representing federal workers, Trump and his allies in NH are trying to cut the legs out from under unions because they know that when unions are strong, democracy prevails, and when democracy prevails, tyrants like Donald Trump fall. But, I’ve got news for Trump and the bosses he shills for: unions aren’t going anywhere.
New Hampshire runs on working people and strong unions. That’s why I recently joined the picket line with members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 1837 to support them in their fight for a fair contract.

This week, IBEW Local 1837 will be holding two additional actions this Wednesday and Thursday to continue the fight for a fair first contract. I hope to see you there:
Wherever working people are organizing for fair pay, safe working conditions, and the dignity of work, I’ll always stand with them.
I know firsthand how tough the fight to secure dignity and fair pay can be.
In 2016, I helped form the first graduate student workers union in Harvard’s history. I testified at the Boston City Council about the challenge of paying for childcare while working full-time and trying to earn my degree, I sat across the table from management for our first contract negotiations, and when the university refused to bargain in good faith, we went on strike and walked the picket line.

These experiences shape my leadership as the vice chair of my town’s Select Board where I’ve stood up to defend the healthcare that our town’s first responders bargained for. In Congress, I will fight to strengthen unions by supporting the PRO Act and empowering the National Labor Relations Board to take on corporations that use dirty tricks to undermine organized labor. I will fight for a wealth tax on the richest Americans and use the proceeds to fund affordable childcare, Medicare for All, and a higher minimum wage.
This campaign is powered by working people — and I will never forget who I’m fighting for.
In solidarity,
Carleigh
