Statement in Support of Proposed NHDP Constitutional Amendments
I support the slate of amendments to the NHDP Constitution proposed by the Rules Committee.
These amendments will expand the Party, making it be more representative, inclusive, and accountable. Organizers and activists who are directly affected by the State Party’s actions should have a real say in how it operates. The NHDP Constitution should ensure that decisions made about the leadership and direction of the State Party are made with the input of the local elected leaders responsible for implementing the strategy on the ground. Under these changes, Town Chairs, State Representatives, and other active leaders would gain a formal role in helping guide the Party. These are the people doing the work at the grassroots level in communities across New Hampshire to elect Democrats up and down the ticket.
I have heard and respect the arguments made by individuals and groups opposed to these changes, but I will always choose the side of more democracy, not less. I believe that as a party, Democrats should live out their commitment to democracy by assuring that the institutions that govern and guide the party reflect the will of the people who make it up.
