HATCh Literacy Event

On Saturday, the Hampton Area Alliance for Thriving Children (HATCh), which I help lead along with a group of incredible local advocates, educators, activists, and parents, held its second annual literacy fair at Winnacunnet High School. Over 100 families came to get free books, make buttons and art projects, sign a literacy pledge, and visit the Gather mobile grocery store bus where they could choose from a selection of fresh fruits and vegetables, prepared meals, egg, milk, bread, and other staples—all for free!

Listening, Learning, and Building On-Ramps

Last night, Carleigh attended a listening session at the University of New Hampshire, organized by State Rep. Loren Selig and UNH students. Both in-state and out-of-state students showed up to share what’s on their minds — from the cost of education to the cost of staying in New Hampshire after graduation. Students talked about friends who left the state because college was more affordable elsewhere and about how hard it is to picture building a future here when housing and basic living costs feel out of reach. They also shared something that resonated deeply: a desire for feedback loops with their elected officials and real conversations about what’s being done — not just what can’t be done because of gridlock in Concord.Last night, Carleigh attended a UNH student listening session.

Earlier this month, when Republicans in DC passed Trump’s ruthless and reckless budget bill, they voted to take away healthcare and food from families in order to give more tax breaks to literal billionaires and run up our national debt. Out of the many headline-grabbing policies in this Frankenstein’s monster of a bill, what’s gotten less attention is how the legislation nationalizes school vouchers as part of a larger agenda to defund and ultimately destroy public education across the country.
